The Murr-/Bottwartal valley is divided into four characteristic landscape areas: the Bottwartal valley with extensive vineyards, the Swabian Forest with numerous gorges, ravines and streams, the water-rich Murrtal valley and the Weissacher Tal valley with extensive orchards. This diverse landscape offers countless opportunities for local recreation, but also for day tourists.
The master plan was awarded to Bresch Henne Mühlinghaus Planungsgesellschaft mbH from Bruchsal in mid-2012 in cooperation with Steinbach & Friends, a consulting agency for spa, wellness, health and sports tourism, and was completed at the end of 2013.
The existing landscape potential is not being fully exploited in many places. There is a lack of spatial and thematic networking, but also a lack of leisure activities for older people. There is also a need for action with regard to flood hazards along the Murr and the preservation of orchards. Overall, the area is characterized by weak inter-municipal cooperation and little awareness of the qualities of the landscape. Based on these findings, the master plan develops project ideas and marketing measures for each landscape area in order to sharpen the respective profile and create sustainable recreational offers and nature experiences.
