The Swabian Forest is the largest contiguous forest area in the Stuttgart region with many gorges, ravines, lakes and enchanted paths, as well as evidence of historical forest use and the Romans. In between, orchards and vineyards characterize the landscape. The Limes once ran through this area; relics and traces of Roman history can still be found everywhere today.
The impetus for the Limes Master Plan came from an initiative coordinated by the Rems-Murr district office of the five Limes riparian municipalities of Alfdorf, Großerlach, Kaisersbach, Murrhardt and Welzheim. As planning progressed, the municipalities of Althütte, Spiegelberg and Rudersberg joined in. The master plan was drawn up between 2007 and 2009 by Schmid Treiber Partner from Leonberg. The focus is on project ideas that contribute to making it easier to experience the Limes and the special features of the natural and landscape area, thereby strengthening local identity and value creation. The close involvement of all local stakeholders was crucial in order to develop enthusiasm for and identification with the Limes Park.
